In a major blow to the Congress former state minister, MP and senior party leader, Chowdhary Lal Singh has resigned from the party. He announced his resignation on Sunday.

Singh, who hails from Kathua district, had won the 2003 and 2008 Lok Sabha elections as Congress candidate from Udhampur.

Party had fielded Gulam Nabi Azad from the seat in the recent LS polls who, however, lost the elections to Jitendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

After denied Lok Sabha ticket Singh was angry and was publicly voicing his resentment against Azad and other senior leaders of the Congress.

Singh was state health minister in the Congress-Peoples Democratic Party alliance government headed by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
