SRINAGAR: A devastating fire has broken out along the Line of Control in Poonch district, triggered by landmine explosions, as per reports appearing in the media.

The fire is reported to have started from dry bushes from across the line and had spread to this side of LoC by Tuesday evening.

“Many landmines have exploded due to the fire on this side,” reports quoted sources as saying.

They said that the army was engaged in dousing the flames, whilst also keeping a close vigil on the border to check for any infiltration bids.

“Some of the security gadgets installed along the LoC have also been reportedly damaged due to the wild fire,” they said.

Forest fires are a norm during fall and for the last many years the landmine fields on the LoC are getting impacted by the sudden temperature surge as a result of these conflagrations. Most of these fires are reported from Poonch and Rajouri where the LoC passes through thick forests.
