SRINAGAR: Vehicular movement on the 270-kilometre strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was completely suspended last night after continuous landslides blocked both carriageways between Karool Bridge and Chanderkote.
Traffic police said heavy debris and falling stones made the affected stretch unsafe, prompting authorities to stop movement from both Jammu and Srinagar sides. Vehicles were halted at designated safe points to avoid any untoward incidents.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Raja Adil Hamid said that restoration work by the National Highways Authority began this morning. However, intermittent stonefall has continued to disrupt clearance operations.
