SRINAGAR: Seventy families in Ramban district have suffered significant losses due to recent landslides in Pernote and Dhalwas villages, with homes and agricultural land severely damaged. The government has disbursed Rs 79.52 lakh as compensation under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms, the government said in the assembly today.
According to official data, 37 families in Pernote village have been affected, with their houses, 400 kanals of agricultural land, and fruit and non-fruit plants sustaining damage. The administration has provided Rs 48.10 lakh as compensation to the affected families.
Similarly, 33 families in Dhalwas village have suffered losses, including damage to houses, agricultural land, and fruit-bearing plants. These families have been compensated with Rs 31.42 lakh.
Despite the devastation, the government has stated that there is no provision under SDRF norms or any existing policy to provide alternate land to displaced families. This has raised concerns among the affected residents, who are struggling to rebuild their lives amid the ongoing crisis.
