Leaders Urge Protection for Kashmiri Students Amid Reports of Harassment

   

SRINAGAR: In response to reports of harassment faced by Kashmiri students in various states outside Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that he is in contact with his counterparts in those states.

CM Omar in a post on X said:  “The JK government is in touch with the governments of the states where these reports are originating from. I’m also in touch with my counterpart Chief Ministers in these states & have requested they take extra care.”

People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said that she had spoken with the Home Minister, urging him to intervene following reports of threats made against Kashmiri students and traders.

“I spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah to extend my deepest condolences and express solidarity with the bereaved families of the Pahalgam terror attack. We stand with the nation in this hour of mourning. I also requested him to intervene as certain elements are openly threatening Kashmiri students and traders across various states,” she said.

“There have been many incidents across the country wherein Kashmiri students are being harassed, beaten up, bullied and even asked to vacate their residential premises. I request the Union government to please ensure the safety of Kashmiri students,” People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone said in a post on X.
