The Srinagar Jammu highway is open for vehicular traffic despite heavy snowfall at many places of the highway.

There was about three to four inches of snow at Jawahar tunnel and Banihal on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway. However, the highway was through and vehicles were plying from both sides.

Reports said that due to heavy snowfall in Sonmarg and on Zojilla pass and the slippery road conditions, the highway linking Ladakh region with Kashmir has now been closed for six winter months.

Meanwhile, the historic Mughal road and Gurez-Bandipora road has also been closed due to heavy snowfall, reports said.

“Due to accumulation of snow at Razdan pass, the Bandipora-Gurez road has been closed,” officials in police control room Bandipora informed.

Due to heavy snowfall at several places, including Pir-ki-Gali, the historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, remained closed since yesterday.
