A leopard Wednesday appeared in the main market of south Kashmir’s Shopian district and wreaked havoc by injuring at least a dozen locals.

Eyewitnesses said that in the afternoon a leopard appeared from nowhere and started attacking who ever came his way. One of the injured has sustained grievous injuries in his face while the other, a woman, has sustained injuries in her back. Another local, they said, sustained serious injuries and has 15 stitches in his arm.

All the injured have been taken to the district hospital for treatment.

The locals later informed police who called the wildlife officials. “The officials tranquilized the animal and later captured him.”
