Divisional Commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit got killed in an ongoing encounter at Handwara in north kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday.

A senior defence official told GNS that, acting on specific information about the presence of some militants at village Sudal area of Magam in Handwara, army’s 47 RR, 21 RR, 6 RR alongwith Special Operations Group (SOG) swung into action and soon cordoned-off the area.

“Acting on specific information Handwara police along with 47 RR, 21 RR, 6 RR launched a cordon and search operation in village Sudal area of Magam in Handwara,” police spokesman said adding “The militants fired upon the joint operation party triggering an encounter. During the encounter a LeT militant was killed.”

As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches, the militants hiding in the area opened fire on them. The fire was retaliated ensuing an enraging gunfight between forces and hiding militants.

Police said that the operation was still going on in the area.
