SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested an active militant affiliated with the Lashkar-I-Toiba outfit in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

A police spokesman in a statement said police along with 24RR and 115Bn CRPF have arrested an active militant of proscribed outfit LeT in Ganderbal. Incriminating materials have been recovered from his possession.

“During naka checking near Shuhama Nagbal, the joint party noticed a suspicious person who on seeing the joint naka party tried to flee towards Warpow route but his attempt to flee from the spot was foiled by the joint naka party and was apprehended tactfully,” said the spokesman.

“He has been identified as Mohd Altaf Wani son of Late Wali Mohd Wani resident of Keegam Shopian. Incriminating materials was recovered from his possession,” he said.

“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation into the matter is in progress,” said police spokesman in a statement.
