SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant associate and recovered incriminating materials including explosive substance from his possession in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that Awantipora Police along with 42RR and 130Bn CRPF arrested one militant associate of proscribed outfit LeT identified as Aqif Ahmad Teli resident of Cherso Awantipora.

“As per police records he was involved in providing shelter, logistic and other support to the active militants, besides transporting arms and ammunition in Awantipora and Tral areas. He was also involved in recruiting local youth in ranks and distribution of money. In this regard, the bank transactions of the arrested militant associate are also being investigated,” said the spokesman.

“Incriminating material of proscribed militant outfit LeT and other explosive substance has been recovered from his possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” he said.

“In this connection, a case vide FIR No. 02/2021 under the relevant section of law stands registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
