Sopore Police Monday claimed to have busted a recruitment module of militant outfit Laskhar e Toiba with the assistance of 30 RR, “and thus averting a major terror and subversion plan of the militants”.

Police said that eight members of the module were arrested from different areas of Sopore town and adjoining areas.

“The local boys were recruited into the outfit building a network of LeT operatives who were bent upon executing various terrorist actions in and around Sopore in criminal conspiracy with one Foreign terrorist of LeT Outfit Umer Khitab R/O Pak who is operating in Sopore who in turn has been taking directions from Hanzulla R/O Pak,” police handout informed. “After being indoctrinated with Jihadi ideology, the group members had formally joined LeT organization and were provided the communication gadgets and weaponry. The module members were preparing for terrorist actions.”

The arrestees include Rayees Ahmad Bhat S/O Mohd Ramzan Bhat R/O Harwan Sopore, Sajad Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Mohd Bhat R/O Harwan Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Kumar S/O Habibullah Kumar R/O Harwan Sopore, Lateef Ahmad Gujar S/O Noor Din Gujar R/O Gujarpatti Zaloora, Zubair Ahmad Gujar S/O Mohd Yousuf Gujar R/O Gujarpatti Zaloora, Mohd Qasim Gujar S/O Mohd Israyeel Gujar R/O Gujarpatti Zaloora, Mohd Iqbal Gujar S/O Mohd Israyeel Gujar R/O Gujarpatti Zaloora, Hakim Din Gujar S/O Mohd Israyeel Gujar R/O Gujarpatti Zaloora.

“08 UBGL, 05 Chinese grenades and 100 AK-47 rounds have been recovered from the arrestees,” the police claimed in a handout. “An FIR number 79/2014 under 7/25 IA act has been registered in police station Bomai, Sopore.”

During investigation, the police said, it was found that the module was being commanded by foreign terrorist Umer Khitab R/O Pak who is operating under the direct command and control of Hanzullah R/O Pak. Involvement of these militants in other actions of terrorism and subversive actions is being investigated.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Kupwara Police claimed that in a joint operation with 28-RR, they busted a hideout in a forest area of Lolab Monday afternoon and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

“Acting on a specific information, Kupwara police along with 28-RR launched a search operation in the forest area of Watnar, Anderbugh, Lolab. During the search, a militant hideout was busted and huge cache of arms and ammunitions including one AK 56 rifle, 05 AK Magazines, 1000 AK rounds, 01 UBGL, 02 UBGL grenades, 04 pistol, 04 pistol magazines, 32 pistol rounds and 21 grenades were recovered from the hide out,” the handout read.
