National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday claimed to have arrested the fifth accused in connection with a militant attack on CRPF camp at Lethpora in 2017.
NIA spokesman said in a statement said that on April 14 it arrested Irshad Ahmad Reshi s/o Nazir Ahmad Reshi a resident of Ratnipora, Pulwama in Case RC No. 10/2018/NIA/DLI (Attack on CRPF Group Centre, Lethpora).
“He is fifth accused to have been arrested in the case during follow up investigation upon disclosures of accused Nisar Ahmed Tantray and Syed Hilal Andrabi arrested earlier,” said NIA spokesman in a statement.
“Arrested accused Irshad Ahmad Reshi is an active OGW (Over Ground Worker) of proscribed militant organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad(JeM). He was a close associate of slain militant and JeM Commander Noor Mohammad Tantray @ Noor Trali. The attack on CRPF Group Centre, Lethpora was executed under a conspiracy to avenge the death of Noor Trali, who was killed in an encounter with security forces in Dec 2017,” he said.
“Irshad Ahmad Reshi has been found to be a key conspirator who provided logistic support in form of sheltering and transport for the militants and conducting reconnaissance of the CRPF Group centre, Lethpora before the attack,” he added.
The NIA spokesman said that four accused namely Fayaz Ahmad Magrey a resident of Lethpora, Awantipora, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat of Pampore, Awantipora, Nisar Ahmed Tantray resident of Dar Ganai Gund, Tral, Awantipora and Syed Hilal Andrabi a resident of Ratnipora, Pulwama have been arrested earlier in the case.
“The militant attack on CRPF Group Centre, Lethpora was carried out in the intervening night of 30-3112.2017 by three militants belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad(JeM),” he said.
“During the investigation by NIA the militants were identified as 1.) Fardeen Ahmad Khandey son of Ghulam Mohideen Khandey a resident of Nazninpora, Tral, Distt Pulwama, 2.) Manzoor Baba son of Ali Mohd. Baba r/o Drubgam, Distt Pulwama, and 3.) A Pakistani militant namely Abdul Shakoor resident of Rawalakot area. All the three militants were killed in the encounter. In this attack, 5 CRPF personnel were killed and 3 were grievously injured,” said the spokesman.
“Irshad Ahmed Reshi will be produced before the Special NIA court, Jammu on 15.04.2019 with a request for grant of police custody for further investigation,” said NIA spokesman in a statement.
