LG Sinha Calls for AI Labs in Jammu and Kashmir Universities to Boost Innovation

   

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the ‘National Science Day’ seminar at the University of Kashmir, emphasising the need for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Labs in universities across Jammu and Kashmir. He called for AI-driven research, knowledge exchange, and technological advancement to enhance innovation and productivity.

During his speech, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the impact of AI on various sectors, stating that its adoption is crucial for workforce reskilling and economic growth. He urged universities to collaborate with industries and conduct training modules to ensure AI literacy among professionals, including healthcare workers, business leaders, and emergency service personnel.

Sinha announced that AI Labs would function as separate entities within the Science & Technology Department, facilitating multidisciplinary research with industry, educators, and technologists. He stressed the importance of ethical AI use and innovation tailored to local needs.

The seminar, organised by the University of Kashmir’s Department of Physics in collaboration with Vigyan Bharati, New Delhi, marked the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by C V Raman. The Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to the renowned scientist and reiterated the role of technologists and entrepreneurs in shaping India’s scientific progress.

In addition to the seminar, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated a Synthetic Athletic Track Surface at Kashmir University. The event was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, Commissioner/Secretary of the Science & Technology Department Saurabh Bhagat, and other scientists, faculty members, and students.
