SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated a National Seminar on the Millets Mission in Srinagar, calling for greater focus on climate-resilient agriculture, small and marginal farmers, women-led enterprises and sustainable food systems in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the seminar, Sinha said the initiative was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Shree Anna” and stressed the need to promote farming practices capable of responding to changing climatic conditions while improving livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
He said millets had significance beyond crop production, linking them with health, sustainability, food security and self-reliance.
Sinha also emphasised the need to revive traditional nutritious food practices and strengthen local food systems, while encouraging women-led entrepreneurship to expand economic opportunities at the grassroots level.
He called for coordinated efforts to ensure that the benefits associated with millet cultivation, nutrition and related economic activities reach villages across Jammu and Kashmir.
The seminar brought together experts, agricultural stakeholders and other participants to discuss the potential of millets in advancing nutrition, sustainable agriculture, climate resilience and rural economic development in the Union Territory.
