SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan here on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, with a ceremonial police contingent presenting the National Salute.
Paying tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs who made sacrifices for the country’s independence, Sinha also remembered civilians who lost their lives in natural calamities this year.
“On this historic day, I join all citizens in paying heartfelt tributes to our founding fathers and the valiant sons and daughters of Mother India who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon people to work towards fulfilling the vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir and a developed India. He said the best tribute to the freedom fighters would be to work with integrity and protect the hard-earned freedom.
Sinha expressed confidence in India’s potential to emerge as a global leader and stressed the need for citizens to work together to build an inclusive society that places public interest at the forefront and extends compassion to the underprivileged.
“Let us strive for balanced growth and the economic empowerment of women to build a more humane and compassionate society,” he said, underlining the need to empower women and youth, create employment opportunities and ensure environmental sustainability.
He said initiatives to revitalise heritage sites, restore ancient monuments and undertake large-scale afforestation reflected the administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
Sinha also stressed the importance of every citizen’s contribution towards building a self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Calling for greater transparency and accountability in governance, he urged people to dedicate themselves to nation-building.
The Lieutenant Governor congratulated J&K Police and Central Armed Police Forces personnel who were awarded gallantry medals on the eve of Independence Day. He also praised sportspersons for their achievements and contribution to the Union Territory’s pride.
Sinha urged citizens to renew their commitment to serving the nation with greater sincerity, dedication and vigour.
