Five suspected militants have reportedly died in an encounter, on the LoC, after a gunfight started between the infiltrating militants and the army in Keran sector of Kupwara district.
Sources said that Army troops foiled an attempt of infiltration by the heavily armed militants when they noticed some suspicious human movement close to Hema post on the LOC in Keran sector of north Kashmir late on Monday night.
Defence sources, said that five militants were believed to be dead. They added that the search operation was continuing on as some militants were suspected to be hiding in that area. They said that troops did not suffer any casualty during the gunfight.
However, senior Police officials in north Kashmir said that no dead bodies or the weapons had been handed over to the local police station. “We have received some unofficial inputs but we are still not in a position to confirm the casualties. Our men are in touch with Army”, a police official is reported to have said.
