SRINAGAR: The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2PM on Thursday following protests by Opposition members over various issues including slamming of 25% tariff on India by US president Donald Trumph.
Speaker Om Birla repeatedly appealed to the agitating MPs to return to their seats and allow the proceedings to continue. “You don’t want to discuss issues?” he questioned, criticizing the disruptions. “Were you elected to indulge in sloganeering in the House?” he asked pointedly.
Calling the conduct of the protesting members “inappropriate,” the Speaker emphasized that Parliament was a forum for discussion and debate. Despite his appeals, the uproar persisted, leading to the adjournment of the session within seven minutes of commencement.
Earlier, the House briefly came together to congratulate Indian and American space scientists on the successful launch of a GSLV rocket carrying an Earth observation satellite jointly developed by ISRO and NASA.
