SRINAGAR: The recently sacked couple of a private school was reinstated by the school authorities after the public outrage and intervention of Education minister Syed Altaf Bukhari. The school management confirmed it.

Muslim Education Institute (MEI) Pampore reinstated the sacked teacher-couple on Saturday, reports said.

The sacked couples, Tariq Ahmad Bhat and Sumaya, were both working in the same school and the decision was conveyed to them on their wedding day.

On the day of his marriage, when Tariq, was serving guests, he got a phone call from Principal of the school where he was teaching Mathematics for last many years.

Expecting a congratulatory message, Tariq was told the opposite. “Enjoy your marriage but don’t visit the school again. You have been fired from the job.”

Meanwhile in a statement Muslim Educational Institute spokesman said “the meeting of the managing committee was convened on Saturday with DC Pulwama to discuss and consider the request submitted by the two teachers for withdrawing of their relieving orders” and added that “After the intervention of Dc the members were taken on board for the agreement to withdraw relieving orders of two teachers from the service of institute.”

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar told Kashmir life that he resolved the issue after calling the two parties to his office and pressed the school management to reinstate the services of the newly married couple.

Meanwhile Taking suo-motto cognizance on a news item of sacking a couple on wedding day because of having a “romantic relationship”, SHRC Chairperson Justice Bilal Nazki Friday, the spokesman said has also taken serious note of it and directed the director education Kashmir and Principal Muslim Educational Institute (MEI) Pampore to file report before the commission by Monday, December 18, 2017.
