SRINAGAR: Two female cooks who were busy cooking the mid-day meal in a school in south Kashmir survived injured when the LPG cylinder exploded in the premises of a government middle school. They have been evacuated to the hospital, reports said.

Reports said the accident took place in the premises of state-run Boys Middle School at Larnoo in Vailoo belt on the road to Kishtwar. As the personnel deployed to cook the meals, the cylinder caught fire and blasted.

Two cooks were identified as Mumtaza Banoo, wife of Gulzar Ahmad Mir and Haseena Banoo wife of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, both residents of Larnoo. Later, one seriously injured cook was shifted to Kokernag hospital and later to district hospital Anantnag.

“The incident happened around 10.30 am on Monday and there were only three staff members, including these two cooks, present in the school premises. The injured were taken to hospital by the local sarpanch. Nobody from the administration was available,” said a local resident on phone.

Reports said the police have informed the district administration. Police have registered a case of the incident. The local station officer inspector Nisar Ahmad informed Kashmir Life over phone, “It was a cylinder blast due to the leakage. Both the ladies are stable and have sustained burn injuries on their faces and hands.”
