As the polling for the third phase of parliamentary elections commenced in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, the overall polling registered in the district was 4 .2% till 10:00 am.

In main town Anantnag, 989 votes were cast  (1.1%), the Dooru town registered 4699 votes (6.0%), 5738 (6.1%) votes were cast in Kokernag, Shangus registered 4228 (4.8%) votes, 613 (0.7%) votes were cast in Shangus and Pahalgam was at 6031 (7.0%). The overall percentage in the district till 10:00 am was 4.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed across valley following a Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Hurriyat (g) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hurriyat (m) chairman Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) valley-wide call against the “ill-treatment’ meted out to the ailing and incarcerated JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in Delhi.
