SRINAGAR: A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Tibet on Thursday, days after devastating flash floods in Nepal killed more than 1,200 people, according to seismic monitoring agencies.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said the earthquake occurred at 1:46 pm IST at a depth of 14 kilometres in Tibet. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), however, placed the depth at 10 kilometres in northern Tibet.
No casualties or damage to property have been reported so far.
The moderate-intensity tremor comes in the aftermath of a major glacier collapse in Tibet near the Nepal border, which triggered massive flash floods and caused widespread destruction in the region.
