The first batch of 33 aspiring entrepreneurs passed out from JKEDI’s Skill Development Centre at Sultanpora (Kandi) in Baramulla. The aspirants were trained for three weeks to help them establish their own self-employment ventures.

Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) was attended by candidates from different parts of the district and included 15 women participants as well who were trained under Himayat Self Employment Scheme (HSES). The training program was modeled for agri-allied, manufacturing and services sector and the aspiring entrepreneurs have chosen activities like sheep farming, manufacturing and trading as their lines of activity. For candidates who choose agri-allied activities, a special four-day sectoral training was also provided and, they were provided on the job training (OJT) at the successful business ventures sponsored by JKEDI earlier.

The three-week EDP was the maiden training program conducted in the Skill Development Centre after it was established.

For the rest of the candidates, an industrial visit and market survey was part of the training program. The EDP is generally aimed at providing lessons on skill development, performance improvement as well as business cum sector specific and self-development training to the participating youth.

In the next phase, the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of the trained candidates shall be prepared by the Institute for their respective activities, to be followed by preparation of financial appraisals and other related processes for disbursement of funds to enable the trained candidates to establish their business ventures and earn a livelihood.
