Army Thursday said that a “quick action” by its men “averted a major tragedy” when fire broke out in a sweet factory in Industrial Complex near Army garrison in Rangreth.

“A major fire broke out today morning in Aroma Sweet Factory which was spotted by troops deployed in vicinity who immediately raised alarm,” said Col NN Joshi, PRO (Defense) Srinagar. “Army fire tenders and army personnel were immediately rushed to the incident site. Timely intervention by army personnel and arrival of the army water bowzers averted the fire from spreading and prevented loss to life and property.”

The cause of fire could not be ascertained.

The locals also played a great role in preventing spread of fire and avoided huge losses of stock, the PRO said.
