SRINAGAR

Welcoming the decision of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to summon former Indian Army Chief over payoff controversy, former interlocutor Dileep Padgounkar Friday said that General V.K.Singh should be made accountable for his remarks and he should be forced to clear his position and made accountable.

In a chat with Srinagar based news agency CNS, Padgounkar said that Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has taken a good decision, as it would stop others from uttering ‘rubbish’ in future. “Legislative Assembly has right to sought explanation from Singh because his remarks and comments have done serious damage to democratic set up of India,” he said.

To a query, Padgounkar said that he can’t comment whether 2010 agitation was orchestrated or not. “I believe in facts and the fact is that thousands of people came on roads in 2010 seeking political resolution of Kashmir. More than hundred innocent youth laid their lives. Summer Agitation 2010 was tragic. No care was taken to avoid innocent killings,” he said.

While replying to a question, he said that certain recommendations made by interlocutors on Kashmir are in pipe line and the Government of India sooner or later would implement them.

“There is a need to address the political aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir. No doubt, there are social, economic, and other issues as well but the main issue is political and Government of Indian must address it,” he said.

Former interlocutor said that Government is willing to talk to separatist groups but it is not clear what is going on in the minds of the leaders of these groups.

“We also tried to reach out to separatist leaders but they did not respond. If they would shy away from talks then how come the issues would be resolved,” he said adding that government of Jammu and Kashmir should provide political space to separatist leaders of Valley. (CNS)
