Police arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik and associates on Friday as they tried to move towards Lal Chowk for staging a protest.

JKLF activists led by Malik took out a procession from Maisuma after the Frday prayers and as they reached near Budshah Chowk a huge contingent of police intercepted.

Police arrested at least 20 JKLF activists including Malik and lodged them at Kothibagh Police Station. A JKLF spokesman said.

Malik, had earlier announced that he would lead a protest on the call of Muthaida Majlis Mashawarat,(MMM), to seek return of the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru.
