Mamata Banerjee Rejects Election Verdict, Refuses to Resign or Visit Raj Bhavan

   

SRINAGAR: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday rejected the outcome of the 2026 Assembly elections, stating that she does not accept defeat and will neither visit Raj Bhavan nor resign from office.

Speaking to reporters, Banerjee alleged that the verdict did not reflect the people’s mandate and was the result of a “conspiracy” against democracy. She also alleged widespread irregularities, including vote manipulation and institutional interference, describing it as a “murder of democracy”.

“I haven’t lost, so I will not go to Raj Bhavan and I will not resign. We were defeated not by public mandate but by conspiracy,” she said, reiterating her refusal to accept the results.

The remarks come after a significant political shift in West Bengal, where the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a sweeping victory, ending the long-standing dominance of the Trinamool Congress.
