SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has executed a long-pending arrest warrant against a man accused in a 2015 cheating and forgery case, officials said on Monday.
The accused, Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir and a resident of Lashtiyal, Kalaroos in Kupwara district, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 17/2015 registered at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
According to the Crime Branch, the arrest warrant had been issued by the Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar. Following the completion of the investigation, a charge sheet had already been filed before the competent court.
Acting on credible inputs, the EOW apprehended the accused and produced him before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. He has subsequently been lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, in compliance with the court’s orders.
The Crime Branch described the accused as a habitual offender, stating that 11 criminal cases involving alleged cheating and the use of fake and forged employment documents have been registered against him across Kashmir.
Of these, four cases are under investigation, while seven have already been charge-sheeted before the competent courts.
The registered cases include FIR No. 17/2015 and 15/2018 at Crime Branch Kashmir, FIR No. 02/2020 at Police Station Maisuma, FIR No. 24/2022 and 114/2025 at Police Station Kupwara, FIR No. 10/2025, 12/2026, 13/2026 and 18/2026 at EOW Kashmir, FIR No. 42/2025 at Police Station Pantha Chowk and FIR No. 46/2025 at Police Station Lal Bazar.
The Economic Offences Wing urged the public to remain vigilant against cheating, forgery and job-related frauds, advising citizens not to fall prey to false promises of government employment, forged appointment letters or other fraudulent documents. It appealed to the public to report such activities to the nearest police station or the Crime Branch for prompt legal action.
