SRINAGAR: A Jammu court on Thursday remanded 63-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal, who allegedly fired at National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, to five days’ police custody for questioning.
Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi, was produced in court under tight security. Police told the court that further interrogation was required to determine the motive behind the attack and to investigate any potential links with individuals or organizations.
The court approved the police request and instructed authorities to ensure the accused undergoes medical checkups every 24 hours.
Prior to the court hearing, Jamwal was taken to a hospital for examination. He told reporters, “I have not done this at the behest of anyone. I have fired at him.”
Abdullah had a narrow escape on Wednesday night when Jamwal allegedly opened fire at him from behind while he was leaving a wedding function at Greater Kailash on Jammu outskirts. (KNC)
