SRINAGAR: In a horrific crime, a cleric was raping a minor till she got impregnated. He eventually buried the new born with the help of two other men.
The cleric is in jail and police said more arrests are expected.
The tragic incident took place in a village that falls under the jurisdiction of Kunzer police station in Baramulla. Sub-divisional Police Officer Tangmarg Hilal Khaliq Bhat told Kashmir Life that officials received information that a newborn was buried in the local graveyard whose whereabouts were not known to the locals and they suspected something fishy.
Bhat said that on August 29, police registered the complaint under FIR number 115, 2022, and started the investigation.
Bhat said that it was revealed a man who was leading prayers in the area had sexual relations with a minor from the same area.
“It was also revealed that the newborn which was buried was inborn out of their illegal relationship,” he added.
“The cleric with the help of two other men buried the inborn without informing anyone from the village,” said SDPO Tangmarg.
Suspecting mistrust, the duo let the cleric go home and opened the grave again for cross-check. They found the inborn inside, he said.
The cleric was arrested and the lady who helped in the delivery will be also arrested soon, he added.
Further investigation in the case is going on.
