The accused, identified as Simon Shylla, was apprehended from his residence in Umlyngka town following a raid by sleuths of the district’s special cell, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, as per a media report.

Shylla reportedly posted a series of comments on Facebook deemed “anti-national” and “pro-terrorist” in nature. These remarks, according to media reports, were made in response to a video related to the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians were killed after terrorists opened fire on tourists.

“We arrested Simon Shylla yesterday from his residence in Umlyngka after he posted anti-national comments on a video,” SP Syiem was quoted as saying.

Police said that two mobile phones were seized during the raid, and a case has been registered at Lumdiengjri police station under relevant sections of law. Media reports further state that Shylla’s comments were considered a threat to the unity and integrity of the country.

He is expected to be produced before a local court later in the day.

Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those spreading inflammatory or pro-terror content online, especially in the wake of growing national outrage over the Pahalgam attack.
