SRINAGAR: A man was injured after being mauled by a bear in Nagbal village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday morning, prompting renewed concern among residents over the movement of wild animals in inhabited areas.
The injured man was identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Abdul Rasheed Gujjar, a resident of Nagbal. He was attacked after he stepped out of his house in the morning and was subsequently shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Villagers said the presence of wild animals in and around different villages has become a growing concern, particularly for people venturing out during the early morning hours. They urged the Wildlife Department to intensify surveillance in vulnerable areas and take necessary measures to capture and relocate animals posing a threat to human settlements.
A Wildlife official said that a team has been dispatched to the area shortly after receiving the information about the incident and the presence of wild animal. He sought cooperation of public and advised them to stay safe and don’t outside unnecessarily.[KNT]
