SRINAGAR: The Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu has arrested three alleged members of the Khauf gang from Delhi, including a man wanted in 13 FIRs, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrested men have been identified as Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga”, son of Arjun Singh of Dablehar in R S Pura; Naresh Kumar alias “Major”, son of Kamal Kumar of Arnia; and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, son of Bishan Dass of Makhanpur in Bishnah.
Officials said Karanjit Singh is wanted in 13 cases and is accused in the Gataroo murder case. He is also facing cases involving allegations of attempt to murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and possession of illegal weapons.
Police said Karanjit had previously escaped from the R S Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates. During the escape, police personnel deployed at the facility were allegedly assaulted and injured after firing took place inside the observation home. FIR No. 39/2026 was subsequently registered at R S Pura police station in connection with the incident.
Naresh Kumar has been described by officials as a close associate of absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul”. He is allegedly involved in cases concerning violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons.
Rahul Kumar is facing a case concerning the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises and has been booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Prisons Act.
Officials said the arrests form part of an ongoing operation by Jammu Police and the SOG to locate absconders and investigate organised criminal networks.
