SRINAGAR: The aged Lumberdar of Kunan village in Kupwara, who played a crucial role in informing the local administration about the tragic rapes during the 1990s is no more.
Identified as Abdul Aziz Shah, he was almost 85 years old. He died at around 3 pm and was lowered in his grave at 8 pm on May 27, 2021.
Shah, family sources said, was unwell for many years. One of Shah’s two sons fled Kashmir and was killed somewhere at the LoC. His body was not found anywhere. His other son served police and retired.
Shah, an eyewitness to the crisis was part of the official records. His firsthand account was extensively used by the media and investigators.
