SRINAGAR: Former Prime Minister and noted economist Manmohan Singh has been posthumously awarded the PV Narasimha Rao Memorial Award for Economics in recognition of his role in India’s economic transformation and nation-building, NDTV reports.
His wife, Gursharan Kaur, received the award on his behalf at a ceremony in New Delhi last week, the Hyderabad-based PV Narasimha Rao Memorial Foundation (PVNMF) said in a statement.
The award was presented by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and currently a distinguished fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress.
Instituted by the PVNMF, the award honours outstanding contributions in the field of economics. PVNMF President K Ramchandra Murthy and General Secretary Madhamchetty Anil Kumar were among those present at the event.
