Senior separatist leader and Democratic Freedom Party chairperson, Shabir Ahmad Shah Monday tried to take out a march from his Sanat Nagar office but was detained by police.
Witnesses said that Shah, who was under going house tried to march towards Naqshaband Sahib Martyrs graveyard along with scores of his activists was schduled to pay tributes to July 13, 1931 martyrs in Old city.
Significantly, for the first time in last two and a half decades, Hurriyat leaders did not issue any strike call on Martyrs day but had announced a joint rally from Jamia Masjid to Martyrs graveyard.
However, authorities clamped down on resistance groups either detaining them in police stations or at their respective homes.
