SRINAGAR: Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, on Thursday announced a reduction in vehicle prices of up to Rs 1.3 lakh, effective 22 September, to pass on the benefits of the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) cut to customers, reports The Tribune.
According to a regulatory filing, prices of entry-level models have seen the steepest reductions, with the S-Presso cheaper by up to Rs 1,29,600, Alto K10 by Ra 1,07,600, Celerio by Rs 94,100, Wagon-R by Rs 79,600 and Ignis by Rs 71,300.
Among premium hatchbacks, the Swift is now cheaper by up to Rs 84,600 and the Baleno by Rs 86,100. The Dzire has been reduced by Rs 87,700, while compact SUVs Fronx and Brezza have seen price cuts of Rs 1,12,600 and Rs 1,12,700 respectively. The Grand Vitara is down by Rs 1.07 lakh and the Jimny by Rs 51,900.
The Ertiga, XL6, Invicto and Eeco models have also become more affordable, with reductions ranging from Rs 46,400 to Rs 68,000. The company’s light commercial vehicle, Super Carry, is cheaper by Rs 52,100.
The cuts follow the government’s decision to lower GST on small petrol, CNG and LPG cars with engines up to 1200cc and length under four metres to 18 per cent from the current 28 per cent. Diesel cars up to 1500cc within the same length limit will also attract 18 per cent GST from 22 September.
