A local court here on Saturday sent the Hurriyat Conference (g) Secretary General (II), Masrat Alam Bhat, to judicial custody in Central Jail Srinagar till June 26 after he was produced before it in an FIR vide number 12/2006.

Bhat was produced before the Court of 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Srinagar in connection with a case registered against him in Rajbagh police station for allegedly committing offences under various sections of RPC. Bhat will be again produced before the court in another case registered against him at Police Station Shaheed Ghanj on June 17 (Friday).

According to Prosecution case diary, Rajbagh Police Station had registered an FIR in 2006 against Alam for fomenting trouble and inciting youth for stone pelting and violence. The court after recording the statement of a witness sent Alam to Srinagar Central Jail for 15 days.

The successive state governments have booked Masarat Alam Bhat in 49 cases since 1990 and 32 times under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He was detained under PSA for the first time on October 2, 1990.
