SRINAGAR: A massive fire broke out at a textile manufacturing unit in the Zakura Industrial Area of Srinagar on Thursday evening, prompting a major firefighting operation.
Quoting officials news agency GNS reported that the blaze erupted inside the factory premises, following which multiple fire tenders from various stations were rushed to the spot to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby industrial units and structures.
Thick columns of smoke were seen rising from the factory, with flames visible from several parts of the area as firefighters continued efforts to bring the situation under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Officials said no casualties or injuries had been reported till the filing of this report.
The extent of damage caused by the blaze will be assessed once the firefighting operation is completed, they added.
