According to Fire and Emergency Services, the blaze originated from makeshift tents sheltering non-locals and rapidly spread to two nearby carpet factories, a tyre shop and a paint godown, intensifying due to the presence of highly inflammable material. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the area, visible from a distance. Eyewitnesses say that a couple of gas cylinders also exploded, worsening the situation further.

Fire tenders and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services were rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. The rescue and containment operations were ongoing at the time of filing this report.

The extent of property damage is yet to be assessed.
