Srinagar

The traffic on the Srinagar Jammu highway has nearly come to a grinding halt near Sempora at Pantha Chowk.

Witnesses said that due to a massive pothole near Sempora, the vehicles take quite longer to cross the stretch of the pothole.

“We have been waiting here for almost an hour and do not see any hope to cross the stretch within next half an hour,” a commuter told Kashmir Life.

Another commuter told Kashmir Life that a loaded truck while trying to cross the pothole has literally got stuck in it.

“The truck has nearly turned turtle and has therefore blocked the whole road.”

The locals and the commuters said that they have a number of times pleaded before the authorities including PWD minister to repair the damaged stretch of the road. “Our pleas have always fallen to deaf ears,” they said, adding, “The jam on highway is a regular affair. We almost lose two hours daily to the traffic jam here.”

When contacted, the PWD minister, Naeem Akhtar didn t respond to repeated calls from Kashmir Life.
