Scores of students of Islamic University of Science and Technology on Monday held a massive protest demonstration in the University campus against the arrest of a University student by Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Sources in the University told Kashmir Life that dozens of the varsity students marched through the university campus carrying banners and playcards demanding immediate release of the student.

A student identified as Junaid Aakhoon, pursuing polytechnic diploma from the University was arrested from his home Armpora village of Awantipora.

A university official told Kashmir Life that they are ascertaining the facts and can only comment after getting requisite details.

“We are trying to ascertain whether the said boy is a student of our university. The university officials have taken up the matter with the authorities,” he said.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said that Akhoon was detained for questioning about his brother Salia Mohammad Akhoon, an active militant who was involved in recent bank robbery incident at Marhama Bijbehara.
