SRINAGAR: The counter insurgency grid has launched massive cordon and search operation in Pulwama. There are nearly a dozen villages in the cordon that was launched during wee hours, this weekend, reports said.

The villages within the operation include Lassipora, Armula, Alaipora, Batnoor, Garbug, Naupora Paeen, Hajdar Pora and Acchan. It was not immediately known if the operation was launch to any rebel or it was purely an area domination exercise.

The operation is being carried out by 55-Rashtriya Rifles, 53 RR, 23 Para, Special Operation Group (SOG) and CRPF’s 182, 183 battalions.

Though the area is far away from the belt where the suspected militants abducted and killed three police men on Friday, some sources feel it might have a link. But nobody was sure enough to say the same on record.

The area is witnessing such CASO operations in routine. The belt periphery is witnessing a cat and mouse game between the militants and the counter-insurgency grid. There have been a series of militancy related incident from the area including some attacks on the police and paramilitary installations.

By the time this report was filed, the operation was going on. There was no detail about any arrest, however.
