Hundreds of vehicles are stuck on vital Srinagar-Islamabad highway in and around Saffron town Pampore.

Kashmir Life received scores of calls from who are on way to summer capital complaining of traffic jam.

“I am stuck in a Tavera near Galander,” a passenger who is coming to Srinagar from apple town Shopian said, “it is Monday and people are late on first day of the new week.”

Another caller who is a government employee and posted in Awantipora said, “I left home in Nowgam area around 9:30 am and am yet to cross Pampore.”

The passengers complained that there is no traffic cop manning the highway. “It has been around one and a half hour and I could see no one from police who could have managed traffic,” one passenger said.

Srinagar-Islamabad highway assumes huge significance as it is the major communication between South and rest of the Kashmir. Train services were started some years back but it could not affect the vitality of this motor-able road.

The highway is being widened which also has been a major factor in traffic congestion. “It seems there is no strategy to complete one patch first and start work on another but the authorities are doing vice-versa,” a passenger said.
