Srinagar

A day after Roshan Lal Mawa reopened his shop in Zaina Kadal area of Srinagar, amid media attention and warm welcome by Muslim neighbours in Gaad Koch Market, a counterclaim regarding the said property was filed in another Kashmiri Pandit Moti Lal.

Moti Lal, who left Kashmir in 1990 and is now living in Delhi, claimed that Roshan’s son Sandeep Mawa has constructed the said building on his land.

“I had a house and a 15 feet lawn in front of it. There was also 40 feet street on which Roshan has constructed this building,” claimed Moti Lal. “Roshan has bought this property from another Kashmiri Pandit Govind Jee Bhat. His son used to live there till a couple of years ago. Now finally Roshan has constructed a building there,” said Moti Lal. “I have grown old now. I don’t want to fight him on this small issue. I want justice.”

However, Roshan’s son Sandeep Mawa refutes Moti Lal’s claim terming him a psychiatric patient. “I have constructed a building on my land. He is spreading fake news. I have got permission from the Srinagar Municipal Committee (SMC) and Revenue Department,” said Sandeep. “I have also lodged an FIR against him after his video went viral on social media. His wife is a cancer patient and his daughter died a few years back because of the same disease. He is mentally disturbed now.”
