MBA Student Among Two Held With Heroin-Like Substance

   

SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including an MBA student, and recovered a heroin-like substance from their possession during a routine checking operation, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the police, the arrests were made within the jurisdiction of Police Station Kheerbhawani when a police team intercepted a Maruti 800 vehicle bearing registration number JK01U-3866 near the Central University on the Tullamulla Road during a naka checking exercise.

The accused have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, and Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Muzaffar Bhat, both residents of Batwina area of Ganderbal. Police said Sameer Ahmad Bhat is an MBA student.

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered a quantity of heroin-like contraband, which was seized following due legal procedures.

Subsequently, a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani, and further investigation has been initiated to trace the source of the contraband and identify the wider drug distribution network, officials said.

The operation was carried out on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal, police added.

Reiterating its commitment to eliminating drug abuse and trafficking from society, Ganderbal Police urged the public to cooperate by sharing credible information related to narcotics trade, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
