Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) Thursday condemned the continuous detention of chairperson Dukhtaran-e-Millat Asiya Andrabi and termed it as “worst form of political vengeance”.

In a statement, the MDM spokesperson said, “Asiya Andrabi and her family is being targeted for their religious and political ideology.” “Her husband Dr Muhammad Qasim was also awarded life sentence without any evidence and later his life sentence was interpreted as imprisonment till death thus all the doors of release were closed for him,” the spokesperson said.

“Asiya Andrabi along with her political secretary Sofi Fehmeeda is being detained to often and kept under arrest for long periods,” the spokesperson added. “While Mufti Sayeed is providing chief ministership to his own daughter, the daughters of Muslims are being thrust into jails and thereafter claims of ideological battles are put forward that are nothing but a farce.”

The spokesperson also condemned the arrest spree all over the valley especially Palhallan, Pattan. “Such tactics would not succeed in crushing the sentiments of freedom and Islam.”

He also condemned the continuous detention of Zubair Ahmad at Shopian police station terming it “as a step to intimidate him which won’t succeed”.

He requested the Scholars, Imams and Khateebs to highlight the plight of detainees including Syedah Asiya Andrabi and pray for their steadfastness on Friday prayers.
