In the recently declared Class 12 results, students of Jamiat-Ul-Banat, an All-Girls Institute, Lal Bazaar grabbed nine of top ten positions in Humanities stream—missing only eighth position to clean sweep the coveted ten.

The toppers said that they didn’t do different things to achieve the feat—but did things differently. Of the nine, three toppers spoke to Kashmir Life to recreate their path to brilliance.

Aiman Jan, First Position (Humanities): ‘I believe in smart work than hard work.’

I hail from South Kashmir’s Tral. For the second, the news sounded incredible to me. I mean, scoring 486/500 does sound an achievement, isn’t it? After letting the delighted feeling to sink in, I realised that hard work always pays.

For this, my father Habibullah Reshi, an engineer, deserves the credit. You know, he was the one who played a great role in shaping my approach to study. Guess what, it was my father who broke the happy news to me! It was indeed a moment of bliss after I realised that I have fulfilled my father’s dream. He always wanted to see me in topper’s list. My mother equally played a great supportive role in my achievement. I can’t thank them more for their support.

And I think, nothing can make a child happier than bringing smile on his/her parents’ faces.

You know, my school teachers taught us with such a dedication and depth that I never felt a need to avail tuitions. May all students get teachers like the one in my school!

And look, at the end of the day, I didn’t prepare for this exam differently. I covered my basics and maintained a discipline. Of course, nothing great happens without putting up efforts. I believe in smart work than hard work. See, every one of us put hard work, but only a few of us adhere to smart work—which I believe is the key to grab what one aspires for.

Surya Nazir, Second Position Holder (Humanities): ‘Study hard and make a difference.’

For me, the result was resurrection of my belief that labour does bear fruits. So, when I heard that I have ended up securing second slot in Humanities in entire Kashmir division, I couldn’t take smile off my face. It was heartening—indeed, quite heartening, besides a fulfilling feeling.

The news came at a time when my hometown Pulwama was passing through a tough time. It was then I got my report card bearing 480/500 marks. But all said and done, I believe my meticulous planning did pay. The feat makes my parents and teachers happy, which is a nicest reward one can ever get. So, study hard and make a difference – my motto, indeed proves right.

Sumiya Farooq, Fifth Position (Humanities): ‘The more you sweat, the more you shine.’

I am from Ganderbal, who scored 478/500 in the recent Class 12 board exams. All credit goes to Allah for making this happen. I cherished the feeling. But, let me tell you, the feat wasn’t a cakewalk.

I didn’t use gadgets and all other stuff to maintain my focus. My teachers, especially Tabassum Ma’am—who always encouraged me, is my partner in feat. It was my Ma’am who taught me to give my best shot by pinning all hopes on Allah. I know, she must be smiling right now over my feat – oh, sorry, I mean, our feat!

And yes, the kind of study atmosphere offered by our school equally deserves accolades. None of us ever went for tuition—as we never felt the need for it. And let me also share this: I had never studied so hard in my life than for my Class 12. And now, when the results are in front of everyone, it reaffirms my belief – The more you sweat, the more you shine!

    Being a student from DARUL ULOOM……………I congratulate in general to all who passed class 12th board xam and in particular to those who were among top ten from ur institute.
    But my opinion is that :
    1.Instead of counting the toppers we should count the number of VISIONARY personalities we r producing annually.
    2.We should count the number of active x students.
    3.We should thinkupon how many revelutionary students we r producing annually.
