Mehbooba-MuftiPDP president Mehbooba Mufti is flying home Saturday morning as efforts to form government have apparently hit a roadblock. She is insisting that she must get political space to work and the ally BJP should give adequate support to trigger a turn-around in the state, reports reaching from Delhi said.

Informed sources said that though there were some meetings in the last few days, the most important meeting with the Prime Minister did not take place. The meeting was supposed to conclude the process but not much headway was achieved in the last few days. She had a detailed meeting with Defence Minister on Thursday. She has said that she cannot rule J&K with just a piece of paper.

Ms Mufti, according to sources, has conveyed to the ally that she cannot take over as Chief Minister simply for the sake of power. She has even conveyed that her party was willing to renegotiate the Agenda of Alliance, if the party feels it has accepted things earlier that it cannot deliver on.

Though at various low-level meetings, the central government ministers had agreed to certain things but Ms Mufti did not feel she got what she requires to run the government in J&K. There was a possibility of meeting with the Prime Minister on Friday but the two sides avoided availing it for the lack of progress.

Interestingly, however, she has not conveyed anything that would indicate the collapse of the BJP-PDP coalition. But she has not opposed to the idea if BJP approaches any other party to form the government in J&K.

Efforts to get in touch with PDP leaders failed. Some of them did not pick the phone.

Indications suggest that the transfer of NHPC run power project has emerged as the main bottleneck. The company being a listed one, central government does not wish its status tanks in the market by reducing its asset base.
