SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday appealed to “secular-minded” people to join a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on September 29 against what she described as “injustices” and to protect the country’s democracy, brotherhood and composite culture.
Mehbooba said the protest has been organised by the Monitoring Committee for Indian Muslims.
In a video posted on her X account, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister alleged that mosques, shrines and churches were being demolished and claimed that the names of opposition supporters, secular-minded people and Muslims were being removed from voter lists being prepared.
“You know that today in our country, mosques, shrines, and churches are being demolished with great ruthlessness. Apart from this, in the voter lists that are being prepared, the names of opposition supporters, secular-minded people, and especially Muslims, are being removed,” she said.
Mehbooba said the Monitoring Committee for Indian Muslims had decided to hold the protest at Jantar Mantar from 2 pm to 5 pm on September 29.
“I appeal to all secular-minded people to participate in this and help us protect this country’s democracy, this country’s brotherhood, and the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (composite culture) of this nation,” she said.
