In a social media post, Mufti alleged that while BJP leaders project an image of cultural outreach abroad, they remain silent or complicit when symbols of spiritual harmony are attacked within India. She claimed the party selectively embraces religious imagery overseas while overlooking or tolerating assaults on India’s pluralistic traditions at home.

“BJP leaders pose in mosques abroad and roll out red carpets for Middle Eastern sheikhs. But back home, they watch with glee the shrine of Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah being vandalised,” Mufti said, describing the attacks as part of a calculated political strategy rather than isolated incidents.

She further accused the party of targeting Sufi shrines and other symbols of coexistence to divert attention from pressing socio-economic issues, including rising poverty, unemployment, and challenges faced by the youth. Mufti emphasized that undermining symbols of harmony is easier than addressing the hardships of citizens.

The 18th-century shrine of Baba Bulleh Shah in Mussoorie was vandalised on Friday by fringe elements allegedly linked to the Hindu Raksha Dal, who were seen chanting “Jai Shri Ram” while damaging its interior. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from multiple quarters.
